Cystic arterial patterns in diseased human gall bladders.

چکیده
Over the last 20 years various authors have suggested that local vascular factors may play some part in the aetiology of certain diseases of the gall bladder (Eliason and Stephens, 1944; Goldman, Morgan, and Kay, 1948; Hallendorf, Dockerty, and Waugh, 1948; Strohl, Diffenbaugh, Baker, and Cheema, 1962; Thomas and Womack, 1952). This paper describes an attempt to establish whether the gross arterial architecture of the diseased gall bladder differs from that of the normal organ, and whether any such differences can be correlated with the nature of the local disease. Using a technique developed in a comparative anatomical study of man and 34 other species (Gordon, 1967), the arterial patterns found in 48 diseased gall bladders were compared with those found in 75 normal gall bladders. This technique involved injecting the gall bladder arteries with Micropaque, filling the lumen of the organ with a translucent resin, and rendering the wall transparent with a clearing agent. The injected arteries then showed up clearly against the translucent gall bladder.

The Reaction of Human Bile and Its Relation to Gall Stone Formation
1. The human gall bladder acidifies the bile. In this respect its action is similar to that of the gall bladders of lower animals, previously described by other workers. 2. The hydrogen ion concentration of gall bladder bile is increased considerably in cases of obstruction of the common or cystic ducts. The highest values were found following complete obstruction. 3. The occurrence of gall sto...
متن کاملCharacteristics of cholesterol absorption by human gall bladder: relevance to cholesterolosis.
The characteristics of cholesterol uptake by 83 human gall bladders (obtained at cholecystectomy) were studied with a modified Ussing technique. Real and artificial biles labelled with 14C-cholesterol and 3H-dextran (the latter to correct for adherent mucosal bile) were used; all gall bladders absorbed cholesterol (average 3.5 nmol/cm2/minute). Recovery of the absorbed cholesterol from the tiss...
متن کاملAssuring quality in an age of rapid technological advance.
The demand from patients for this new procedure was intense. Strong competitive pressure drove hospitals to provide video facilities in operating theatres and expensive sets of laparoscopic instruments. Conservatives called for trials to compare the new versus the old way of excising diseased gall bladders, but since the 1990s, laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been the treatment of choice for u...
متن کاملDouble Gall Bladders in Man: A Case Report
The frequency of surgical exposure of the bile ducts and gall bladder has made the surgeon increasingly aware of the anatomic variations in these structures and their blood supply. The double gall bladder in man is a rare anomaly. Of the 103 previous reports of double gall bladders that are available to the author, only 68 occurrences of this anomaly were actually proved at operation or autopsy...
متن کاملEctopic thyroid in duplicated gall bladder: a rare entity. Case report.
Duplication of the gall bladder is a rare anomaly. Ectopic thyroid in a gall bladder is also exceedingly rare with only four cases of ectopic thyroid tissue in the gall bladder reported in English literature. We report the unique case of ectopic thyroid tissue in a duplicated gall bladder in a 51-year-old female with recurrent right upper quadrant pain. Abdominal sonography revealed a duplicate...
